We Train Educators

Did you know…

  • Over 90% of LGBTQ students regularly hear anti-LGBGQ comments at school – over a third from school staff?
  • LGBTQ students are three times more likely than their heterosexual counterparts to skip school because of fear?
  • Almost 60% of students who experience harassment do not report it to school staff largely because they don't feel anything will be done or because the staff appears homophobic?
  • Over 75% of educators have received no training on recognizing and intervening in anti-LGBTQ harassment?

Safe Schools South Florida offers three district-wide day-long workshops for which educators may receive 12 master plan points and 7 CEUs (click on WORKSHOPS for more information).

We go to schools to provide school-wide trainings. We work with school administration and counseling personnel to tailor programs to meet the needs of the individual schools. These sessions range from 90 minutes to a full day.

In all cases, we make every effort to provide a student panel to address the adults because experientially this is the most effective method of helping adults understand what's actually happening in the hallways, bathrooms, buses and classrooms on a daily basis.
